Management at Victoria's Big Build

8.7
8.7 rating for Management, based on 27 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Generally good, each graduate is paired with a mentor. Mostly very approachable.

On the whole, managers are very accessible and give regular feedback (generally positive) on work performance. They are typically receptive to suggestions and ideas from direct reports.

Varies across managers. As a graduate particularly working from home it is especially important to have a manager that is available and has time to provide assistance. In some cases the manager has not had appropriate time or ability to manage a new graduate.

I have a great relationship with my current manager and did with all of my managers throughout my graduate program. They're supportive and trust me to get the job done.

Managers are well qualified and great people to learn off and seek guidance

I get to work very closely with my manager, meaning that feedback and mentoring are both frequent and useful.

Not only is my manager accessible, it's very easy to communicate with other managers to the point where it almost feels "interpersonal" around the workplace! Upon joining the project, there is an organisational chart which all employees can have a look at to see everyone who works here in a hierarchical view, plus a "people finder" helps find others easier to connect with. My manager is superb and might as well be a friend, as busy as they may be they'll always find the time to chat with me whenever I need help with anything. They are also supportive of my needs as a graduate even if they don't concern the work my manager does so they go to great lengths to ensure my experience is as excellent as can be.

Managers are a mixed bag. You can be lucky and be assigned a manager who is on the ball, or you may be unlucky and get a manager who is not used to managing people. My experiences were positive with my manager (and other members of my team) providing feedback and ongoing mentorship. There are formalised feedback processes at the end of each rotation to monitor performance and mark improvement.

Manager communication is great and I have found that they act as an informal mentor throughout the rotation.

My old manager worked above and beyond to mentor me and introduce me to the industry. I couldn't have asked for a better support. He attended manager trainings and really took it on as a role and responsibility to balance between supporting me and giving me responsibility and autonomy. My current manager is a little more hands-off, however.

All my managers have been very easy to get along with and will try their best to offer me interesting tasks.

My direct manager is always approachable and attentive to how I'm going. I never really communicate with senior management, but this is understandable as there are many employees. Internal comms is also very frequent, and a lot of time and effort is put into project updates and interesting non work topics

In my experience managers are very good and make effort to mentor the staff under their supervision.

All of my managers have been open and willing to give their time. Many are willing to mentor as long as you are giving back, and the feedback provide has always been candid.

Managers are great, strong focus on the individual and what they want to learn. always easy to contact. The project also has a separate mentoring program linking senior staff with grads.

Very satisfied with the managers I've had. They're informative and always happy to make time for me to help or just to chat.
