Very laid back in and out of the office. You're trusted to complete your work as you see fit and everyone is very helpful
Graduate, Perth
Very inclusive culture and huge push to diversify the workforce.

It is amazing. Team members are helpful and we do every second month social events.

In the office, I find the culture is very respectful and supportive. People go out of their way to help me, and I don't feel pressured to rush things or be overloaded with work. I have been to several after-hours work events, and socializing between employees appears to be the same as it is in the office - respectful, happy, friendly interactions. People are largely cooperative with one another, and very excited to have a HR graduate in the team, as there hasn't been one in five years. I think the social and professional cultures are quite good at BHP.

Never hard and fast to stay after hours but sometimes required to finish work. Flexibility in some departments is a struggle.
Graduate, Adelaide
Highly supportive environment, everyone in the team is willing to help each other out.
Graduate, Perth
Great culture within the office, often get shared lunches to celebrate things, opportunity to socialize at the wet mess at camp outside of work but often don't, generally good relationships between engineers/operators/leaders within the department

I can see leadership tries very hard to promote a safe and inclusive work culture which is one of the main reasons i joined bhp. It's very social and engages in many activities.

Everyone in the department are great. Everyone is treated the same. We have weekly social outings which are fun and a good way to make friends with your department. Cooperation is great as well. Everyone realizes that we need to work as a team to keep the mine safe and running smoothly.
Graduate, Moranbah
Its a bit low at the moment. Not many people come to work, everyone works from home, so its difficult to see and hang out with the team
Graduate, Brisbane
Mining still has some cultural issues and history of workplace bullying and intimidation. Although I have not experienced this regularly myself, I have direct reports who have experienced this with other leaders of the business.
Graduate, Adelaide
Very little socializing out side of the office.

Depends on the group of people, some groups are fantastically positive, others are a bit negative but feel it can have to do with the long hours
Graduate, Olympic Dam
Very good culture around the office, people working hard but also taking breaks when needed. After hours it's also very good, with sports being organised at camp most evenings.

Respectful and fun within the office. Outside the office, there is opportunity for involvement in the ODV camp. However, there is opportunity for improvement with more activities and involvement in camp.

Out of office the culture is lacking. As a business this is not owed but if you don't facilitate social interactions outside work that people want to engage in ultimately that's not an element of your company that people will stick around for. Sometimes being able to see your supervisor/colleagues as a normal person improves a working relationship. Anyway we do not have that. The functions we do are far too controlled and applied on a bulk basis that there is no intimacy. Procs at work: for the most part there is a real element of respect and friendliness. cons: We talk about enabling people but undermine them by not training them correctly and or use systems that aren't fit for purpose. Overall the current work climate is really divisive. On one hand derogatory white male jokes fly around unchecked as its flavour of the month to be diverse and inclusive and anyone whom doesn't fit that should feel lucky they have a job. On the flip side alot of "old white men" whinge that everyone coming through is useless. This isn't helped by bringing underskilled DnI personel into the organization. Like we are striving to be the best and most efficient company but we bring in personnel whom reduce our capability at the same time we leave our highly competent embedded contractors as contractors as they dont fit the demographic. They then end up leaving which further reduces our capability. Untimately it just makes doing your job harder as their is less people around whom know what good looks like and can support you to get there.

The company is all about diversity and inclusive. Everyone can voice their opinion.

Culture is poor in my office/department a lot of office politics have to be navigated around to do my job. I find my one up difficult to communicate with and have been singled out and treated unfairly in my opinion. When I reached out to my two up they just went back and told all this to my one up and this has made things worse.

I'd prefer to spend time alone than with people within the company.
