Culture at Australian Communications and Media Authority

7.3
7.3 rating for Culture, based on 8 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Branch culture is very collegial, supportive, open, friendly, helpful. However that does not reflect the entire organisation, there are different cultures between branches and sections dependent on their leaders.

Office culture is fine, the demographic of the office is quite old though. Structure is hierarchical and not flat at all (it is a government organisation), some socialising occurs with other graduates.

Being government, structure is clear and hierarchy is established and respected. This means there can be a lot of clearance, but there's also genuine belief that those in senior positions will make the proper decision. There's also a 'one team one dream' vibe with little competition for recognition but more collaboration. Teams are able to work across the organisation, and due to many connections across the agency many people 'know someone' in another part of the agency who can help out with things. I've mainly worked while we have been remote, but in the brief time we were in the office, there seems to be a good social culture with people knowing each other and being friendly and approachable. Also a strong social club which facilitates events and people catching up.

Each section has around 7-8 staff, who are all culturally different and would definitely have excellent teamwork as such. Most of the time, we would have a small morning tea to kick start our day. We also have a Culture and Values events held regularly to find out more about the work our colleagues are doing.

bit hard to gauge starting in a pandemic. However, culture appears to vary significantly across teams, divisions and cities.

I like my team and enjoy working with them. In terms of office culture, I feel there is a larger cohort at the ACMA that love working from home. This is understandable because they have families. But in the long term, I see this as a barrier to enjoy staying at the agency.
