Graduate Recruitment: Supporting Candidates with Disability

Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C)

If you are a person living with a disability, we pride ourselves on fostering a supportive and inclusive pathway into the Department.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PMC) Graduate Program fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment and encourage an innovative approach to recruiting a diverse range of people for the Graduate Program and Department more broadly.

If you are a person living with disability, we pride ourselves on fostering a supportive and inclusive pathway into the Department. We do this through targeted advertising and assessment processes and enhanced accessibility for candidates through reasonable adjustment offerings and wellbeing support.

We strive to cultivate a workplace where you are able to bring your whole-self to work. We encourage staff to consider a broad range of perspectives and support people with varying work-styles.

Our commitment to you in creating a diverse workforce that brings innovative ideas and fresh perspectives is through applying an inclusive lens when considering advertising methods and platforms. We attract a diverse candidate pool for our Graduate Program, through advertising an Affirmative Measures Disability, Affirmative Measures Indigenous and Generalist stream each year(Check out our opportunities tab for more info). Our application process offers you the opportunity to provide information on your preferred method of contact and if appropriate, ability to provide contact details of a Disability Services Contact Officer, who we can work with throughout the process.

In collaboration with our Inclusion and Diversity team, to support you through your application process, one of the key initiatives we have incorporated in our 2025 Graduate Program assessment process is removing the requirement to participate in Cognitive Ability testing, if you are a candidate living with Disability and have applied through our Affirmative Measures Disability stream. In our inclusive approach to recruitment practices, we recognise and understand that Cognitive Ability testing is not the most appropriate method.

To support you throughout your experience, the Department and Program support and facilitate reasonable adjustments throughout your recruitment journey and during your time employed by the Department. We create a safe space for you to feel comfortable in sharing any reasonable adjustments you may require. If you choose to, you will have the opportunity to disclose any reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process and on commencement at the Department.

We work alongside the Wellbeing team to ensure any requests for reasonable adjustments are supported and accommodated. Your journey into the Department will be supported by the Wellbeing team, who will be in touch two weeks prior to your commencement to provide guidance and assistance to you through your experience.
