    The Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy) teaches an approach that helps people with personality or anxiety disorders, dysthymia, chronic depression, somatisation and other conditions in which trauma is a contributing factor.

    Entry Requirements

     

    Admission to the Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy) requires:

    • successful completion of the requirements of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Science in Medicine or Graduate Diploma in Science in Medicine with a minimum credit average; or
    • a bachelor degree with honours in a health or science-related discipline from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
    • a bachelor degree plus a postgraduate degree in a health or science-related discipline from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
    • a pass bachelor degree in a health or science-related discipline from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification.

    The following are also required:

    • minimum 12 months' experience in a clinical area related to mental health;
    • current professional indemnity insurance to practise psychotherapy in NSW; and
    • satisfactory performance at an interview as required.

    Master of Emergency Nursing

    The Master of Emergency Nursing aims to develop the specialist knowledge and skills required to work closely with patients and their families who are confronted with trauma, accidents or acute and unexpected illnesses.

    Entry Requirements

     

    Admission to this course requires the applicant to:

    • have a pre-registration nursing degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification with a credit average; or
    • have a graduate diploma or graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.
    • be a registered nurse in Australia or overseas.
    Domestic applicants

    Domestic applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience as a registered nurse, be working in emergency nursing and provide a statement of support from their supervisor or manager in order to undertake the required clinical assessments.

    International applicants

    International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in emergency nursing and have a choice of providing a statement of support from their supervisor if they wish to undertake the required clinical assessments in their home country, or else the clinical assessments can be undertaken at the Sydney Nursing School under simulated conditions.

    Entry in the 1 year or 1.5 year degree program is determined by the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) criteria below:

    Admission to candidature for the Master of Publishing (1.5 years full-time) requires:

    • a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, including a major in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent qualification.

    Admission to candidature for the Master of Publishing (1 year full-time) requires:

    • completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Publishing with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification; or
    • an Honours degree in a relevant discipline; or
    • relevant professional work experience and a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average or an equivalent qualification.

    If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master's degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master's after successful completion of the shorter course.

    • a three year Australian bachelor's degree in a cognate discipline that demonstrates a background in computer programming and statistics with a minimum credit average (65 percent), or
    • the University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Data Science with a minimum credit average (65 percent), or a qualification deemed to be equivalent; or
    • completed 24 credit points of the University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Data Science or Graduate Certificate in Data Science with a minimum credit average (65 percent). The 24 credit points must include 12 credit points of Data Science Core units and 12 credit points of Data Science specialist elective units.

    If you have the equivalent of an Australian AQF Level 8 degree or above in a cognate discipline, you may be eligible for a Reduced Volume of Learning (RVL) of up to 24 credit points or 0.5 years/1 semester.
